About the Aviator Shootout:
The Aviator Shootout was started by Alliance, Ohio’s Government/Educational Cable TV Station’s (Spectrum Channel 1022: Alliance) former director Kyle Schwarz, and staff member Abbey Blake, in the spirit of a similar event at Ohio University. Students within the Alliance High School Video Production CTE Program are split into groups and are randomly given a film genre, prop, line of dialogue, and filming technique. They must incorporate these elements into a short film (between 3-10 minutes) and they have 48 hours to do so. Students learn the importance of a real deadline, the power and challenge of teamwork, and the thrill of creating a work of art from scratch and then showing that work to a live audience at a formal public screening and awards ceremony. Prizes are awarded to the First, Second, and Third Place teams, as well as a single student for the MVP Award. Students also learn fundraising skills by seeking monetary and item donations for the awarded prizes.
